Cub Scouts Family Camp

We officially survived our first "FAM CAMP" with the cub scouts. Yep! We had no idea what we were getting into, but we decided that it was something that we were all going to do as a family. It was a little bit of an adventure, especially because Amy had been diagnosed with an upper respitory infection only 24hrs before and was still on fever reducer and antibiotics. She did well though and we monitored her temperature to make sure that the fever broke. Charles and Ryan had an absolute blast running around with all of the other kids. Ryan had a solo "adventure" while we were there but thanks to the 80 other folks in our pack was found relatively quickly. His response was "I heard some laughing and had to check it out" Ugh!!! I cringed everytime I looked at the boys as they were usually covered in layers of visible dust/dirt/sand at ALL times. There was absolutely no use in washing them or trying to keep them clean. Making them wash their hands or legs or face just resulted in them getting caked in mud instead of dust/dirt shortly after the washing. Next time I will bring clothes that I'm okay with throwing away afterwards, definitely nothing that is in nice condition. You could tell we were first time Fam campers as we had Charles dressed in his full cub scout uniform the morning of the flag ceremony a full hour before the flag ceremony. I didn't want to cut it close and be rushing to get everything on him. I figured he would just wear that after he took off his pjs in the morning. Well the other parents had their kids in regular clothing all the way up until about 5 minutes before the scheduled flag ceremony, leaving just enough time to walk down to the flagpole. Wow, sure enough Charles managed to get dust on his uniform in the hour before the flag ceremony. Well, we'll know for next time!
